Christy Halchak Day 30: I am thankful for the wonderful vacation I've had with Cindy Harris Carey, Barry L Carey and Mariah! It's hard to believe this is my last day here! I am looking forward to giving those precious Grandkids a big hug tomorrow...but I will miss Cindy so much..that's one hard part of being together is separating again. I really appreciate how they've spoiled me and been so good to me while here. You are a person who just LOVES to like. You’re usually the mother of a friend or a distant (sometimes creepy) relative. The Chronic Liker can’t help hitting like on anything. “I just got to work.” Like. “Ugh, it’s raining again.” Like.
Sometimes, it gets weird. “My cat fluffy went to kitty heaven today.” Like. Uhh… why are you “liking” that my cat died? What kind of “friend” are you?!
2. THE COURTESY LIKER??
You rarely hit like except when you feel guilty for not doing so. “WOW! SHE SAID YES! I’M ENGAGED!” Like. Unfortunately the Courtesy Liker will now get 786 emails from Facebook, mostly filled with other Courtesy Likers. Here’s a tip. The Chronic Likers are in early on these. Pace yourself. Get in late.
3. THE BIRTHDAY WELL WISHER??
Newsflash: if someone sends you one message a year on Facebook and it’s on your birthday, they are NOT your friend. Your REAL friends will be jockeying for the 12:01 a.m. “first in” post on your birthday. Everyone else saw it come up in his/her feed and felt oddly compelled to feign interest in the anniversary of your birth. Don’t fall for it!
4.THE POKER??
Poking is so 2005. Seriously, who is still using the poke button on Facebook? It’s just creepy and a blatant invitation to be de-friended.
5.THE LURKER??
You are just here to watch. In the analog world, you might be considered a stalker, but it’s totally acceptable online. You never hit like. You are more voyeuristic and keep a low profile. Most of your “friends” are just people you wanted to keep up with that had their profile blocked for non-friends. Be careful. You are teetering on the edge of becoming a Courtesy Liker.
6.THE OVER- SHARER??
You can’t wait to tell the world what you had for breakfast. Was it oatmeal or pancakes? You’re certain that your “friends” are all dying to know. “Hey look, a new magazine in the mail! I have to share this in my status.” “How awesome is Dog the Bounty Hunter?” “I just walked around the block with no shoes!” “I should have never eaten that bean burrito.” Nobody really cares accept the Chronic Likers who are in essence just enabling your over-sharing.
7. THE BRAGGER??
You use Facebook to drop names and tout how generally awesome you are. It’s only impressive to the Chronic Liker. To the rest of us, it’s just a painful reminder of how mundane our lives are. “Sweet, I just saw Taylor Swift and she gave me the script to the new "Twilight movie". The Bragger just ran 5.4 miles in 42 minutes. The Bragger just checked in at the Ritz Carlton. "Bummer, my Mercedes has a flat. Guess I'll be in the Lexus today." Most of your "friends" are just Birthday Well-wishers.
8.THE CHECK-INNER??
You don’t waste time typing that pesky status update. You just “check in” everywhere you go. The Lurkers can literally follow you around from place to place. Be careful if you are friends with your boss. If you call in sick, you certainly don’t want to chase it with: the Check-Inner "just checked in at the ballgame.” Another tip for the married ladies, avoid “checking in” to places you shop. It creates an unnecessary paper trail that’s harder to cover up than hiding those shopping bags.
