Harikrishna Patel સુરેન્દ્રનગર-વઢવાણ તાલુકાના ૨૮૦૦ની વસતિ ધરાવતા ટચૂકડા ગામ કટૂડાના ૭૩ વર્ષનાં ઝીણીબા તાજેતરમાં જ ઉજવાયેલા ખેલ-મહાકૂંભની તરણ સ્પર્ધામાં મહિલા સિનીયર સીટીઝન વિભાગમાં પચાસ મીટરની બેક સ્ટ્રોક કેટેગરીમાં એમનાથી નાની ઉમરના સ્પર્ધકોને પાછળ રાખી દઈને દ્વિતિય સ્થાને વિજયી બન્યા હતાં. ઝીણીબાએ કદિ સ્વીમીંગ પૂલ જોયો કે નથી તરવાની તાલીમ લીધી - નાનપણમાં એમની બા પોતીબેન તળાવે લુગડા ધોવા જાય ત્યારે ઝીણીને સાથે લઈ જતા. એક દિ’ પોતીબેને ઝીણકીને તરવાની હંિમત કેળવવા તળાવમાં ધક્કો મારી દીધો અને ઝીણી તરવા માંડી. ત્યારથી ઝીણીની બીક ગઈ અને રોજ તળાવે તરવાનું રાખતા દસ ફૂટ ઊંડી ડૂબકી લગાવીને અંદર તળિયે પડેલો ઘડો લઈને પાણીની સપાટીએ આવી જતાં એટલી બધી હોશિયાર થઈ ગઈ. આ તો એમનાં બચપણની વાત થઈ. ૨૫ વર્ષની ભરયુવાનીમાં ઝીણીબેન વિધવા થયા. દરમિયાન બે દીકરા અને એક દીકરીને ખેતમજૂરી કરીને મોટા કર્યા. ૭૩ વર્ષે ય હજી વગડામાંથી ઘાસ વાઢીને ૨૦ કિલોની ગાંસડી ઘરનાં ઢોરઢાંખર માટે લાવે છે. સવારે પાંચ વાગે ઊઠીને ગાયને દોહવે છે. ઝીણીબાએ તરવાની હરીફાઈમાં સ્વીમીંગ કોસ્ચ્યુમ નહોતો પહેર્યો એમણે તો ઘાઘરાનો કછોટો વાળીને જ સરસ તરી ગયા. આ ખેલકૂદ સ્પર્ધામાં ભાગ લેવાનો એમને લગીરે વિચાર નહોતો આવ્યો- પણ મોટા દીકરાએ ભાગ લેવા આગ્રહ કર્યો અને ગામની શાળાના શિક્ષક નટુભા ઝાલા પ્રોત્સાહન આપીને અમદાવાદ લઈ ગયા હતા. એમના પિયર રાજસીતાપુર પાસેના ચન્દ્રાસર ગામના તળાવમાં નાનપણમાં ખૂબ ઘૂમકા માર્યા હતા - એ પ્રેક્ટીસ કામ આવી ગઈ. ઝીણીબાને તરણ સ્પર્ધાના ઈનામમાં સરકારે રૂા. સાડા ચાર હજારનો ચેક આપતાં ઝીણીબાએ નટુભાને પૂછ્‌યું કે ‘‘આ કાગળને મારે શું કરવાનું ?’’ તકલીફ એમની એ હતી કે બેન્કમાં તેઓ કોઈ ખાતુ ધરાવતાં નથી. કોઈ ઈચ્છાઓ કે લાલચો વગર ગામડામાં ખેતમજૂરી કરતા ઝીણીબાના પગની બન્ને પીંડીઓ પર ઉપસી આવેલી નસો ચાડી ખાતી હતી કે તેઓએ વિધવા અવસ્થામાં બન્ને બાળકોને મજૂરી કરીને મોટા કર્યા અને હાલમાં પણ તેમનું ખેતમજૂરીનું કામ ચાલુ જ છે. આજની આઘુનિક યુવતીઓને માટે કોઈપણ ક્ષેત્રમાં હંિમત નહિ હારવાનો દાખલો બેસાડતી ઝીણીબાને ઘણી ખમ્મા !!!
