Jonaree Evans I've been hearing a lot of posts talking about "December 25th is for Jesus not Santa Claus". On the contrary it belongs to neither. Sinterklaas or Santa Claus, was a saint claimed by many countries, mainly in the Netherlands and is traditionally celebrated on December 6th. December 25th was celebrated by pagans for the passing of the solstice. The Catholic church united these traditions under the banner of Christ...which is not bad. Everyone has a right to celebrate Christ all throughout the year...but it's historically incorrect and has been bugging me. I think we can agree that these holidays are supposed to be a joyous times and who doesn't enjoy good times with friends, the feasts and the gift-giving and caroling, but it is most certainly not Jesus' birthday. It's a beautiful time for celebration, but it's not Jesus' birthday. I've said my peace and don't want to rain on anybody's parade. Sorry if I offended you and Happy Holidays to all.
(And before anyone starts if you want to celebrate his birthday go right on ahead. Who's stopping you? I'll still be drinking egg nog.)
